Poetry of Stephanie Bennett Henry

The Color of Truce

I know about giving up, looking down, giving in. I know all about the edge and falling from it slowly without any grace at all. I know about the darkness and the pain hiding there, the cold, secret heartbreak that no one can understand, the daily internal meltdown taking me to the boiling point of raw, blood-skinned knees, looking up at a voided sky. I know these things too well. But I also know all about the fist fight of getting back up despite myself, standing tall over my despair, recognizing the color of truce in my own eyes and the way it can be whatever color I want. #stephaniebennetthenry #ragingrhetoric
