Poetry of Stephanie Bennett Henry

As True As Your Song

Little things still rip me apart from time to time. A memory that slices in gently, takes me to my knees like I am falling again, and just before I hit bottom, my heart is shaken into a clean slate that never knew you at all. There’s always music playing, babe, and sometimes each chord still cuts me like the cruelest knife, leaving the most fatal wound, carved so brutally with your name. And the music stops, the words go away and still I say, I never knew you at all. No one really ever does anyway. I dance to the silence and swear it’s as true as your song never ever was. #stephaniebennetthenry #ragingrhetoric
